Project Visibility online staff training is a 30-minute, highly interactive online course that teaches about LGBTQ+ older adults.
Project Visibility workshops have been offered since 2003 from Boulder County (Colorado) Area Agency on Aging.
Thousands have been educated as to the presence, history and lives of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer older adults. Project Visibility, Creating Inclusive Communities for LGBTQ+ Older Adults was created for caregivers and staff in care communities.
In this course, learners will understand the history of LGBTQ+ people in the United States. The widespread discrimination elders experienced in the past has created fewer resources, worse health outcomes and fear about safety that many bring with them when they enter care. Going back into the closet may be a protective reflex for many, but caring staffers can demonstrate inclusion and acceptance.
